Chapter 1[]
This was the most important time of Scars life. Correction, the most important battle of his life. Monsters roared in excitement and the pressuring sound of the battle drums rang out through the arena.
If I lose this,I’ll be the weakest monster of all five realms.
The Pukei-Pukei in front of him,Venom, lashed his tail and showed of his large, muscular tongue that dripped with poisonous saliva. Scar was a hybrid on a Odogaron and an Ebony Odogaron. Which meant he wielded the element of dragons in his claws. He would say he was as strong as a normal Odogaron but that would be ironic since he never won a single battle in his life. He sweared his mom would kill him herself if it wasn't for his father,Deathclaw who was a friendly to Scar and all his friends, unlike Bloodbringer who yelled and growled at him and attacked anyone who wasn't from his world the Rottian Valor.
The Rottian Valor was a wasteland where the dead bodies of monster laid. It isn't as bad as it sounds. It's almost like every time you take a stroll you find a free meal all to yourself.
Scar let out a weak hiss which led to a few mutters of disapproval. Trying to ignore it, Scar moved his outer tissue above his talons to reveal an extra set of claws. They were dull and had round edges around them. Venom snorted at the sight of it.
A large Diablos stepped out of the crowd to stare down at the two monsters in the pit of no escape as Scar liked to call it . Scar noticed that the large horned dragon was not like normal Diablos,he had large, flat horns that look like good bulldozing machines. He had deep red eyes instead of the pinkish red like other Diablos.
General Plunderer! Scar thought with a jump, King of the Wilderian Vain, the driest spot of the realm!
“Monsters of all realms!” Plunderer thundered, his voice was like a huge boulder shaking the ground as it landed. “We gather here today to experience the battle of our lives.” Scar lowered his head, his heart feeling like a feather tied to an iron ball, sinking down, down, down, down.
“Ironically,” shouted some Rathian flicking her poisonous tail at Scar,
“This guy can’t even lift a claw in battle,” Others nodded in agreement,Scar pressed himself to the ground even lower.
“Come on your supposed to be the strongest in the Rottian Valor, plus your mother is the general. Your nothing compared to her.”
The Rathian continued to taunt. Some of the crowd started chuckling and Plunderer gave them a cold glare.
“Enough!” he roared silencing just about everyone in the entire place while others still were muttering and making slight hisses towards Scar.
“Weak or not these two have fought long and hard for this battle. We don’t judge someone on how they look or act.” Plunderer said.
Yeah, right. Scar thought, Your talking about a guy who had 89 losses since he hatched.
“The first monster to be pinned or knocked out wins.” Plunderer arched his back and raised his head, before letting out the splitting screech all Diablos knew. There's the signal! Scar thought, fear took over him as Venom launched at him. Scar rolled to the left as the green bird tried to do a flying kick towards his face. Scar turned and tried to dig his claws into Venoms tail to disable his poison gas. Venom turned and smacked Scar right in the snout before wrapping his tail around his neck and choking Scar. “That Rathian is right.” Venom chuckled, “Your nothing compared to your mother.” Scar wanted to say something back, but he couldn’t,he let out another breath. “Stupid.” Veno, hissed before releasing his grip on Scar. Scar turned to realize how far from the ground he was. His entire skeleton rattled as he smashed into the Sandstone floor. Scar saw the huge shadow of Venom loom over him, ready to pin him to the floor.
“Not this time!” Scar hissed,he rolled onto his back and grabbed Venoms face and shoulder with his front claws and kicked at the soft underbelly Pukei-Pukeis had. Venom yelped in surprise and jumped off. Roars of shock and appreciation ran out. Scar felt a sick when he saw the claw mark he left on Venoms snout. I could do that to any dragon, anything really. The Pukei-pukeis started snorting steam. His face turned red to form a mask. Scar took a step back nervously but that didn’t stop Venom from charging. The Odogaron turned to run but he wasn’t quick enough. Jaws closed around around his neck and his legs dangled helplessly in the air. Venom let out a snarl before slamming Scar into the ground. Pain leaped out from Scars tongue as he bit down on it and blood filled his mouth. He let out a cry as Venom smashed him down into the floor once more before raising his leg, and pinned Scar to the floor. I lost...again. Scar heard the sound of Venoms victorious roar and the sound of the crowd cheering and booing. Mother is going to yell at me again.
“Can we kill him now?” someone said in the crowd. Scars ears perked up,his heart pounded. An Azure Rathalos stepped from the crowd majestically, snorting smoke from his snout.
“This little runt is an arrogant weakling. He hasn’t won a single battle in his life. So why let him live when he has no use to any of us?”
“Thunderwing he is still youngling-” Plunderer started.
“Youngling?!” Thunderwing hissed,he made a gesture to Venom to get off before grabbing his tail with a strong force.
“His tail spikes show he’s almost a juvenile! I seen even a pack of jagras win at least a single battle!” He growled, narrowing his golden eyes at Scar.
No monster can talk back to a general! Which means Thunderwing himself must be a general or Plunderer himself would impale that Rathalos to the wall.
Even though the Acentan general made a lot of good points Plunderer couldn’t let Scar just die right? Plunderer we kind and thoughtful, so it was unlikely he would agree with ThunderWing. But Scar knew that his hope was gone when Plunderer nodded slowly. “You are correct Thunderwing. Scar, son of our strongest general, you have brought shame on all five realms. Only the Elementian gods have your soul in your hands and they accept our offer to end you. Thunderwing ,kill him.” Scar scrambled, trying to get away, but he knew that there was no escape. Thunderwing flew at the speed of light and snatched Scar by the tail, poison leaking from his poisonous talons.
“Wait!” roared a voice. Scar felt his hopes rise but quickly plummeted when he saw that Venom was the one who called. “Let me kill him.” he said. Thunderwing didn’t hesitate, he let go on Scar. Venom let out a hiss of delight and sent a kick. Pain hit Scar with the force of a thousand anvils. “Help!” he cried. Everyone ignored him and Thunderwing dug his tail spike into Scars leg. Scar clenched his claws and agony as he watched Venom move in closer. “I had been waiting for this moment,” Venom said in an eerie delight, “All those times you’ve lost I had been hoping you’d die. But I didn’t expect little ol me to-”
“WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!” Everyone froze, even Thunderwing, standing at the closed gate was a female Odogaron, with black scales and red lightning crackling from her mouth, she had huge muscles and a missing leg.
“Mom!” Scar said brightly,he had never been so happy to see her face in his life. Finally, some hope of surviving.
“Shut up lizard.” The Ebony Odogaron snapped. Her foggy red eyes glared at Thunderwing and Venom. “What do you think you are doing?” she growled.
“Bloodbringer.” Thunderwing said, “Your son has brought embarrassment to all realms, Plunderer and I agreed to kill him-” Bloodbringer put two claws on the wooden gate before giving a small tug, and splitting it in half. “Even if I didn’t agree?” Thunderwing opened and closed his mouth a few times and even Venom shuffled a few steps away from Scar.
“Were sorry Bloodbringer but we all have made a decision, you don’t always get to interfere.” Plunderer pointed out. That was the wrong thing to say. Bloodbringer ripped through the gate and lunged straight into Thunderwing. Scar bolted to the other end of the Arena, opening a small kit and grabbing a bottle full of green liquid. This should do it. He poured ¾ of it on his tail and watched the scars on his tail slowly heal. Thunderwing blasted a large ball of flames, Bloodbringer jumped out of reach, the fire hit Venom instead and he let out a yowl and started to roll on the ground. Is mother going to kill them? Scar thought nervously. BloodBringer was known for her power and ferociousness, but Scar never had seen or heard of her killing anyone. There was this one time a Barroth dropped a an extremely hot piece of meat onto her head by accident, she got so made she attacked him in rage, he survived, but only barely.
His mother was now on Thunderwings back, repeatedly hitting the side of the Azure Rathalos neck and huffing Dragonblight smoke into his nostrils. Thunderwing roared and did a spiral, losing grip, Bloodbringer launched right at Plunderer grabbing him by the horns. Plunderer swung his head fiercely but Bloodbringer help on tight, she blasted a large breath of Dragonblight right in his face. The generals horns suddenly shattered. The crowd gasped in horror and some just stared in shock as the pieces of bone that used to be horns, rained down on the floor. “STOP!” Plunderer roared. Bloodbringer growled before jumping off him and grabbing Scar by the talon. She raised her head high to make a steely glare at all of the nervous faces staring at her. “Anyone else want to take a chance?” she hissed, “Because if you do ,you’ll have to face me.” she made a short growl at Venom. “Lets go.” she growled. Scar followed her sheepishly,he could have sworn he heard Venom say, “He caused all of this. That stupid Odogaron. He made me look like a fool. Now it's time to pay back.”
Chapter 2[]
Scar and Bloodbringer walked into the Acentan trade market. “Look mom-” Scar said.
“After all the practice I gave you.” Bloodbringer spat, red sparks coming out of her mouth, “You can’t even knock out a Pukei-Pukei? One of the weakest monsters of all?!”
They past a pair of the chameleon dragons and Scar ducked his head as they glared at his mother when she passed them, but then realized who she was and slammed a blank expression onto their faces. “I’m sorry mother.” Scar mumbled, “I was just born that way.”
Bloodbringer made a low growl, “You weren’t born that way, it's like math super strength plus super strength equals a power I can’t possibly imagine.” She headed towards an Anjanath farmer touching a black bag with a golden chain she always had around her neck. “I think Venom said it himself, he said it doesn’t depend on you relations at all.” Bloodbringer snorted “You believe that Kestodon-head is right? Fah! Why say someones right when he has no proof?”
Scar looked at his arms, did his mother really think he had power in his claws somehow. She didn’t say it aloud but he was sure that was what she was thinking. He doubted he could even win a battle, when he was eight he got tackled by a Jagras. He had to be rescued and only barely survived. Most monsters could tackle others twice their size at that age, not Scar. He couldn’t win a fight to anyone, not even a Kulu-Ya-ku that just hatched
He watched as his mother made a small talk with the farmer, her tail was lashing and her claws tapped impatiently and raking the floor with her one leg, she had lost the other one during her marriage,or Trial of trust he should call it, with Scars father, Deathclaw. Before slipping two golden coins on the floor. The Anjanath scooped up the coins in his mouth and dropped them in a barrel before reaching into a dug out pit and pulling out a Aptonoth. Bloodbringer stalked up to Scar once more, “Fine.” she said,”You can go find that Rathalos of yours, but I’m not going to help if you get yourself into another one of his dares again.”
Scar grinned a little before turning and sprinting off. He knew exactly where to go, he climbed up the wooden stairs to get to the third floor, past by the Canteen and traded for two chunks of Raw Meat, before turning and heading into a large cube structure. He found the silver scales to what he was looking for. “Silvermaster!” he called. The Silver Rathalos was flying around, putting different items and plants into their own drawer. He turned and smiled, “Hello! Aren’t you the great weakling I hear about?”
“Ok, stop.” Scar said affectionately, “Mother just let me stop by for a little bit while she’s trading.” Silvermaster nodded, “So you don’t need anything? No herbs? Tools? Insects? My dad says we practically have enough Energy drinks to make another world! Jokes on him I’m sure there's already an island just a mile away from us thats has tons of Nitroshrooms and Honeycombs.”
Scar looked at all the drawers where each had a different markings, “I’ll take a stack of those. Our neighbors have Sleeptoad infestation so my family could use some of Energy drinks incase we get some Sleep gas in our den.”
“Are you sure? Bloodbringer could just be cranky because she doesn’t get enough sleep.” Scar let out a nervous laugh, “If that was the case I’d be hunting for them 24/7.”
“If you do manage to catch a few,try to sell them at the Pet Market, you could get some hard cash or a pet.” Silvermaster opened his wings, showing the torn webbing on his wings he had gotten while he was young, and opened a large hanging box to grab a handful of bright yellow, fizzing liquid.
“My family banned pets from our den. Bloodbringer says they distract monsters from doing what they are supposed to do.” Silvermaster shrugged, “I practically live here in a small room I share with my mom and dad, they don’t mind letting me have a Vigor wasp or a Mosswine since was have plenty of mushrooms and healing items to feed them. It's pretty easy to convince your parents to get one if you live in an item shop,Scar.” he paused, holding a handful of Energy drinks. “Or is your name still called Scar?”
“No...still have a one word name.”
“Haven’t visited Bladetip yet eh?” Silvermaster said, dropping the remaining drinks into a small box before sealing it up.
“Yeah,I doubt I will get to go at all.” Scar said.
Bladetip was a tall and steep volcano. It had been inactive for years and had a magical essence in the heart of it. Young monsters at the age ten climbed up the large mountain and slept in the crater during a full moon. Legends say they obtain a special dream with the guardians of the forest and earn those two word names.
“That's too bad.” Silvermaster said, “Tommorows the next full moon! And it's not just a normal moon! It's going to be a Blood moon!”
“A Blood moon!” Scar breathed, “Those only happen once every ten years! Isn’t there a rumor Blood moons bring mysterious power to Bladetip?”
“Yup!” Silvermaster grinned handing Scar the box, “And I’m going!” Scar nearly dropped the box and crushed his claw. “Wow! Really? You are so lucky! What power are you going to get?” Silvermaster rolled his shoulders, “I’m not sure,I guess it will be random.” Scar felt a little heavy inside. Silvermaster was going to do something awesome and exciting, but he couldn’t share the awesome adventure with him? Isn’t that what friends did? Of course if he told his mother this she’d just roll her eyes. She didn’t think of other generals or traders as friends but more of allies. “Want to have some raw meat. Fresh kill.” he said pulling out the raw meat he bought a few minutes earlier. “Awesome! Aptonoth.” Silvermaster exclaimed,he took the meat in his claws and devoured it in two bites. “Got any more?” Scar shook his head biting into his own meat. “How was your battle today?” Silvermaster asked. Scars heart sunk a little,he felt as if an iron ball was sinking in his throat in his throat. “Lost yet another, this time it was to Venom,a Pukei-Pukei.” Silvermasters eyes widened in disbelief. “A Pukei-Pukei? Bro,thats like the end of the line. Your mother must of raged hardcore.” Scar nodded a bit,his scales raised on ends, he had some sort of creepy crawly feeling. Was he imagining it or did he smell the faint sickly smell of saliva and poison? Did anyone hear a slight hissing noise and the sound of talons steps? He saw the terrified look in Silvermasters eyes and knew what was happening. He whirled around and met they orange eyes of Venom. He was no longer the fearful little dragon who stood back in the corner as Scars mother attack two generals,Venom knew Scars mother was gone and trading for food so he took the advantage. Why is he so angry? Scar though slightly waving his tail, then he saw it, large claw marks ran across the Pukei-pukeis face,Scars claw marks, glimmering out like a broken Glavenus tail. “Look.” Scar said backing away from the growling creature, “I-”
“You did it on purpose.” Venom snapped, his neck feathers suddenly flared, red as a flame, “Out of all the pathetic runty monsters I knew. You gave this!” He jabbed a wing at the scar he got and then at a huge cluster of singed feathers along his side. “Now everyone stares!” Venom continued starting to pace, “And then they laugh when I tell them you! Of all creatures! Gave me this!” Scar was distracted for a moment by what the angered bird wyvern said. They laughed at him. Because I gave that wound. They think that I couldn’t possibly do this. He realized that Venom started to stare furiously at him. “Oh your going pay. I’m going to finish Thunderwing said I could do.” Scar glanced at his friend. Silvermaster had a look of helplessness. Silver never dealt with being picked on since. Rathalos and Rathian were highly respected and monsters never dared to make fun of them. So he never dealt with bullying before. Venom reared up and Scar readied his muscles to sprint away. Bt the Pukei-pukei wasn’t attacking,he nosed a drawer open and grabbed a bottle in his jaws. In the bottle was a red liquid, color of blood,it made a fait crackling sound and red cracks of lightning appeared inside. A demon drug! Scar thought with alarm. Demon drugs were a powerful liquid that made a monster more savage and powerful. As powerful as it was it is dangerous,Demon Drugs didn’t have drug in its name if it wasn’t dangerous. The side effects make you drowsy,do things that can cause you to hurt yourself, and even permanently confusing one's mind and turning them into a savage beast.
“Venom! Stop!” Scar yelped, “You don’t know what that is capable of.”
“Shut up idiot!” Venom growled, glass shattered as he broke the jar and red liquid (Scar didn’t want to know if some of it was blood.) leaked into Venoms mouth. There was a few moments before Venom clenched his eyes shut for a moment.
Scar didn’t know what to do. If he ran he’d be in the perfect position for a deadly hose of poison. But if he stayed where he was,Venom would surely be able to kill him. But Silvermaster is here. When Venom attacks. He wasn’t comforted by this,Demon drugs made monsters three times and powerful. A snarl snapped car out of his thoughts. Venom, now snorting steam, had scarlet instead of yellow in his eyes. His scales were turning a greenish-red.
“That's better.”he thundered, “Now I can kill you just like I wished I could do many, many times.” He coiled his tail as if he had an imaginary creature in it and crushed its neck. By all the realms! Someone help me! Scar never felt so terrified in his entire life. He already managed to survive a whole crowd. Now he had to survive a bloodthirsty pukei-pukei. What was with him and always having to be saved? Venoms tail lashed out faster than a deflating Paolumu. Scar didn’t even have time to move and the snakey tail slapped him with the force of a thousand piercing pods. Pain cannoned through Scars face. He never knew death would be like, but he was sure that this was exactly what monsters who died in fights would feel. Venom hissed in delight his teeth were chattering as if snowfall had come. Scar could feel hot blood leaking from his chin. He couldn’t move,he froze,Venom must of paralyzed him with poison. The drunken Pukei-Pukei took advantage of this and wrapped his tail around Scars neck. Silvermaster roared angrily,he lunged right at Venoms tail and sank his teeth deep. Strangely,Venom did not cry out in pain, instead he cackled as his purple blood created a huge pool on the floor. Scars lungs suddenly disappeared as Venoms grip grew stronger. “Finally,” Venom hissed, “You are in my grasp, you have no escape,I can do whatever I want to you. I can-” He suddenly stopped and let out a scream. In a flash,a golden light dashed through Venoms tail and cut it off. Scar fell to the ground with a thump. Venoms eyes were no longer red but back to yellow. “King ShimmerWave.” he said in a quiet, fearful tone. ShimmerWave?! Scar rose his head and was slightly blinded by a golden light. When his eyes adjusted he saw that Venom was right. The leader of all five realms stood at the entrance of Silvermasters home. His back had a blanket of gold running all the way to his tail. His horns curled in a circle so they were pointing at the kings mouth. Red streaks streamed from his neck all the way to his back legs. He only showed that when he was angry, so who made him get enraged? ShimmerWave picked up a clear, twisted piece of glass. Then at the red pools on the ground.
“Venom,” he said finally, “Explain this.” The Pukei-Pukeis feathers nestled closer to his body. “Your majesty,” he stammered lowering his head in respect, “ I am shocked by your presence-”
“Speak.” The King repeated.
“ Scar attacked me.” Venom blurted, “I was getting some Nulberries for my father, he accidently got hit by a poison cup.”
“Hmmm, I see…” The Golden Dragon muttered. Scar couldn’t believe it, the wise leader of all the realms was actually believing this Pukei-Pukei’s lies? Scar had never lied much in his lif, one thing was that if his parents figured out, he’d be deader then dead. And on the other, it showed much dishonesty. And he was sure to be kicked out if he was both a lier and weak. Monsters who were kicked out were sent away into the Sixth Realm, a forest full of wild creatures and inedible plants. Bugs that could shear you to bits. Monsters that didn’t speak their language. It sounded like a horrifying place to survive.
“Its true your majesty.” Venom said in the most convincing voice, “Then Scar attacked me and Silvermaster threw a demon drug into my face. All I speak is the truth.”
“Is it?” Shimmerwave said, lowering his head until it came face-to-face with the bird wyvern, “Then do explain, one why you were getting nulberries for poison? Every monster knows only anti-plants and antidotes can. Second, how your father was poisoned when Pukei-Pukeis are immune? And three, why Silvermaster would throw a demon drug at you. Silver Rathalos are known for following the rules and throwing expensive and powerful objects is definitely against the rules.”
Everyone fell silent, even passing monsters took one look at the King and quickly turned away. “I-uh-your majesty I can explain-” Venom stammered but Shimmerwave raised a talon as a sign of silence. Silvermaster flicked his tail, sending glances of relief at Scar who knew every inch of the Silver Rathalos body was to shred into that lying brat.
Scar felt every scale and talon on his body draw closer as his eyes met with the ruler. He glanced at the bleeding stump where Venoms tail war supposed to be. The dragon who could kill him in a single swipe, one who had rulership over all. Even Bloodbringer would bow to him. Everyone bowed to him.
ShimmerWaves breath was hot enough to make the candle wax a few tail lengths away to start melting faster. His golden scales make small clinking sounds as took a few steps into the center of the room. Scar hadn’t noticed how small he was until Shimmerwave loomed over him. He half expected ShimmerWave to suddenly fall on top of him and turn him into Odogaron mush.
“Tell me, Scar of the Odogarons and Silvermaster of the Rathalos, what really did happen.”
I was going to the store to talk with my friend and then I was a weakling and let Venom beat me up. Scar wanted to say.
“Scar was just coming to talk and buy some energy drinks, not to fight your majesty,” Silvermaster spoke up, “Venom showed up and drank a drug and tried to murder him. And I might add that its against the rules to drink a drug until your an adult or are supervised.”
ShimmerWave nodded, “Is this true Scar?”
Every bone in his body was trembling, Scar saw Venom casting him “Don’t say it” looks. He tried to speak but all his vocal cords shut down in fear. All he could do was nod.
“Thank you for your honest.” ShimmerWave said with a nod, the red streaks on his neck disappeared for a moment but reappeared when he turned to Venom. Who was giving steely glares at all of them.
“Venom, you have broken three rules, you attacked a citizen, talked back to me and lied.” he sighed shaking his head, “I have no choice, Venom, you deserve to be kicked out of all the realms. Tonight you will leave Septain and never return. You have brought shame to yourself.”
Scar half expected Venom to bow and beg for mercy but instead his feathers were ruffled up in fury.
“You started all this.” Venom screeched, his looked made Scar guess he was talking to him, “You made me do this.”
He really blames me for his actions? Scar thought, he struggled up the words to say, “You brought this on yourself.”
“Scar is right.” Shimmerwave agreed, “You had no reason to attack Scar. Even if he is weak.”
This comment made Scar sink to the ground. Even the king of all five realms agreed he was the weakest monster in the universe.
Venom growled and stalked out of the store, looking even more like he wanted to kill Scar.
“Thank you.” Silvermaster said to the glimmering golden king.
ShimmerWave nodded, then in a flash, he was gone.
Chapter 3[]
It was nearly Lightloss when BloodBringer came to get Scar, Silvermaster was cleaning the red mess and Scar was helping when she stalked into the shop, carrying a small Legiana in her mouth. She gave Scar the don’t-you-dare-complain look and then beckoned him to follow her to their home, The Rottianian Valor.
The ‘Land of Death’ wasn’t as bad as it seemed. You could be taking a stroll near the Acid Crystal Lakes and stumble across a Kelpi corpse, all for you.
Bloodbringer on the other hand, had no time to go hunting, she only was free during Lightbring and lightloss before she had to take her duties as a general. Help wedding or hatching ceremonies. Help keep the Girros population in check. Make sure their was enough clean water for everyone.
She barely could get more then an hour or two of sleep, Scar wondered if that was why she was always fierce but he didn’t dare ask.
The Rottenian Valor was a place where the dead bodies of monsters were placed. It was said that the monsters who lived there would devour the evilness the monster had when they were alive and allow their spirit to run free. Scar never liked this, for one thing it felt like the monsters of his home were absorbing the evilness into themselves, instead of destroying it. And second, it made him feel queasy and horrified at the thought of his own parents and friends, eating the flesh off his bones once he died.
The Generals still must be furious about BloodBringers behavior. Are they going to kick her out like they did to Venom. And if they did, who would be the next general?
The answer was easy, obviously the Pre-Leader would take over, which was BloodBringers mate and Scars father, Deathclaw.
Deathclaw was the total opposite of the fierce, Ebony Odogaron, he was married too. He was calm, never yelled unless he had to, and he was just a normal Odogaron. He was kind and generous to others. Many thought he never fought in his life, his name said everything. He was the one responsible for tearing BloodBringers leg off without any help. And taking a limb off a monster is pretty hard to do. You’d have to be pretty brutal to get through all those tough muscles. A familiar voice rang out in his mind.
He was so deep in thought he jumped when his mother called out, “Scar do you have Moly’s digging in your ears?! Your father will get worried if we don’t come soon.” BloodBringer was already one ledge above Scar.
Scar put all his force into his legs and leaped, he barely missed and his back legs smacked against the greenish-silver surface. BloodBringer snorted unimpressed and pulled him up.
The familiar city of the Rottian Valor filled Scars eyes. The city wasn’t necessarily a city, it was more like a forest village except their was rocky ledges instead of trees and the houses were made of stone or bone instead of wood. The houses connected to each other by boney bridges and each house had a wide “yard” large enough for monsters to go around to cross another bridge or to create a little garden or play area for young monsters.
But in the center was the Generals home, it was slightly larger than all the others, but it was on the ground instead of large stoney pillars, and it was also made of expensive and rare, NightWood. The only tree that actually grew in the rotten, poisonous lands. It had strong bark that sparkled like newly made obsidian, and it had the ability to slowly regenerate after it was cut down. But this took moons and their was only about ten of those trees in the world.
A Radobaan with two large fangs sticking out of his mouth and sparkling eyes made a small salute to BloodBringer as she past him, “Heading out for scouting patrols sir.” he grunted. BloodBringer nodded in a slow way but a hint of irritation sparkled in her eyes, “Very well SharpFang, and you better start calling me ‘General’ or ‘Ma’am’ or I’ll rip out tongue and stuff it down your throat.”
SharpFang nodded nervously, “Ok General.” he stammered swallowing another ‘Sir’ and rushed down a small path. It was only till Scar glanced back to realize the large monster had a small Greenish-Blue Glavenus hatchling trailing behind him.
BloodBringer snorted some black smoke,
“That Aptonoth-head, he’d eat his own tail if someone didn’t remind him. I was an inch close from attacking that idiot.”
Monsters didn’t fight much, at least, not if they had to, mostly it was fun seeing which monsters were the strongest, which was why their were arena battles, but those were for fun, their were fight-to-the-death battles that sometimes came because two monsters were annoyed or angered. These battles ended in brutal injuries or death even if someone didn’t stop them
DeathClaw was at the front door of their home,
“I thought you got into some trouble again!” he said in a relieved tone once he spotted them, he touched noses with Scars mom who snorted, “I always get into trouble Deathclaw, you know that.”
Scars Dad let out a small laugh, “Come inside you two, I’ll cut up that Legiana for you.” Scar nodded and was about to step inside when a flash of bright blue caught his eyes.
Is that-? I told him a million times not to.
“Son? Coming?” Deathclaw brushed his claws against Scars back, they felt smooth and slightly cold against his scales.
“Actually dad I’d like to stay out here for a little bit.”
Deathclaw shrugged, “Sure thing, I’ll call you when dinner is ready.”
For the longest moment Scar grinned at his father, until he was sure both of his parents were out of sight.
“You can come out now you sneaky furball!” he shouted.
The sound of bending bones groaned and he whirled around towards the sound.
“Hi Scar,” said a sky blue Tobi-Kadachi calmly, if you looked closely at the shape of his pupils you could tell that the Tobi was male. Night black zig-zags made up of black scales scaled up his legs and his eyes were cherry red.
“Crackle!” A hiss left Scars throat and he felt his claws dig into the stoney ground nervously, “How many times do I have to tell you? You don’t have permission to be here! If mother sees you one more time she’ll drown you in acid!”
Crackle leaped off the bony structure he was posed on and landed perfectly on the ground, “I’m allowed to be here as long I’m not caught. Plus I won in a battle with her when we first met right? I can beat her again”
A hard lump formed in Scars throat, “But that was before she went to Bladetip a second time.”
Crackle was another one of Scars friends, yet the Tobi was Scars first friend, they met when Crackles family was taking a vacation to Cordiana and Scar’s parents were traveling to the very same place because BloodBringer had a meeting with Cordiana’s general, Gracefulness. Scar was out looking for any food when he ran into Crackle who was also exploring.
He got along well with the Tobi-Kadachi, they both enjoyed exploring, both were friends of Silvermaster, and both were hybrids.
Different monster speacies liking each other was a very strict law in the six realms. Crossbreeds of a normal monster and its subspecies (Like Deathclaw who was an Odogaron and BloodBringer who was a Ebony Odogaron) were fine but this usually never happened if you asked Scar.
Yes, Scar was a hybrid, most monsters would looks at him and wonder how he was even related to his mother, he looked as normal as any Odogaron. But is you looked closely, you could tell his scales were a darker red then other Odogarons, under his scales were also onyx colored spots as well, and his tail has a purplish hue to the tips. You could obviously see hints from his mothers sides if you looked close enough.
“So how was today’s battle?” Crackle asked, he let out a yawn, showing of his fangs which were full of paralyzing toxins.
Fear and sadness clung onto Scar’s heart at the remembrance of his afternoon.
“Terrible, I was up against Venom.”
As he expected, Crackles back fur rose and he made a small hiss,
“Venom is such a coward.” he spat, “But you won right?”
A heavy sigh left Scars throat
“Right?”
“No, almost choked to death until my mother interfered.”
“So you lost to a Pukei-Pukei?”
Scar sunk his talons deep into the rocky floor, “Do you really have to remind me?”
Crackle’s eyes glimmered with sympathy, “Sorry buddy.”
Then a flash of dark scales caught Scars eye, “No! You don’t under-”
In a flash BloodBringer appeared out of the shadows, and sliced Crackles throat.
Chapter 4[]
Scaar yelled in fear when Bloodbrngers claws reached out, ready to draw death. But Crackle was quick. He jumped backwards, he had fought Scars mother before and knew her tricks. But that was before she went to Bladetip and gained a much stronger version of Dragonblight called Beastblight, plus the Blood enchantment, one slice from those claws would bring a fatal end.
Crackles fur stood on ends, his eyes following BloodBringer who circled the Tobi like one of those ancient Barioth creatures Scar had read about.
Finally the Odogaron subspecies sprang into the air, her extra set of claws unsheathed and black Dragonblight streamed from her mouth. Crackle brushed his side against a wood like structure, lightning crackles from his fur.
Scar wished she could do something other than watch in horror. But if he stopped BloodBringer or Crackle, his mother would still yell at him in the end. And either way, one of them would end up dead.
BloodBringer was obviously put general for her strength. She managed to help the fight of Rajang that managed to find their way through the giant stone wall that surrounded the six realms alone, with three legs.
Crackle on the other hand focused on using the things BloodBringer didn’t have. Including paralysis, static charges, and the ability to glide.
Crackle dashed at lightning speed, trying to deliver a paralyzing bite, BloodBringer was quick and lashed out her claws. The Tobi spreaded out his arms and sailed over the general. BloodBringer snarled in frustration, she suddenly leaped at Crackle, her fangs sunk into Crackles blue fur.
Both Scar and Crackle shrieked. Except Scar couldn’t feel his mouth.
BloodBringer growled and raked her claws into Crackles tail. She had bitten down at the end of the Tobi-Kadachi’s tail, the main weakness for all monsters.
Crackle yelped in pain and his talons pawed helplessly at the floor as he tried to make an escape. His hind legs were starting to drip with blood.
This was too much for Scar to handle. The fear of his friend's death. He felt his talons suddenly charge forward. He had no idea what he was doing, he just did it.
He slammed his body into his own mother. Red and Black. He hit her with such force, she had to roll to stop herself from falling off the edge.
Crackle shrieked again and Scar saw that a massive chunk of his friend's tail fur was ripped off in the process. A few drops of blood were running down from some of the spots
“Go! Now!” he yelled.
His friend wasted no time, within seconds Crackle was only a tiny blue speck in the distance.
Scar was so close to being relaxed. So close. Except one tiny thing was keeping him away from it.
“HOW many TIMES do I HAVE to TELL YOU?!” Bloodbringer thundered, she spat the fur out of her mouth and ran her tongue over her teeth, “That fizzy FURBALL CANNOT BE YOUR FRIEND.”
Guilt crashed over Scars heart, “He came himself, I didn’t sneak him in or anything. I told him to leave.”
Smoke was practically bursting out of his mother's ears, “Well THAT'S what HAPPENS when you become FRIENDS with a TOBI-KADACHI.”
“Why should I not?” Scar suddenly shot back, he couldn’t just let his mother treat Crackle like that, “So he lives in Acentan and we live here in the Rottian Valor. You have friends from different realms, like the generals.”
Blood pounded in his ears, he never talked back to his mother before, once when he was really younger, Bloodbringer muzzled him for a week.
“The generals are my allies.” BloodBringer snarled.
“And Crackle is my friend!”
“I can see.” His mother snapped, “Why else would you nearly knock me over a nearby ledge?”
Scar paused, he didn’t think about that, his mother was eight times his weight, how did he manage to knock her over in one hit?
He opened his mouth to point it out but his mother was already turning away. “Your father will hear of this.”
At least Crackle is alive, for now…surely his friend had learned his lesson.
The smell of metal and wood filled his nose as he stepped into his house. Despite being large, the inside wasn’t as fancy as you would think. No thrones bejeweled with a helm crab. No fancy polished bowls filled with ripe fruit. Not a single shiny object in the entire place
Instead, the first thing you’d see was a large bone desk a few monster lengths away from the door, swarming with so many papers and candles you couldn’t even see what was behind it. The room was cluttered with dust and sometimes you could hear a brief sound of a Sleeptoad croaking.
BloodBringer stalked towards the left hallway that led to the kitchen where Scars father was. He heard that sound of her sterned voice and could tell she was talking about him
I should head to my room. Scar thought, So I can recover from today’s battle.
He went into the right hall and went up the stairs which led to his room. Scar normally went to his bedroom, it was the only place that felt peaceful, away from other monsters and his parents.
The place was quite normal, a sleeping mat and a collection of books along with a half-eaten Aptonoth leg. One part of the room had a massive square hole, Scar didn’t know why it was there but he wasn’t going to ask. He wasn’t interested.
I wonder what they are saying. Scar thought as BloodBringers voice echoed, Maybe BloodBringer is mad at me. She always is. Does she even love me?
He patted his Mosswine mat and layed down on it. Tiredness weighing down on him.
Maybe she only came for me because my father said so. Maybe she only married Deathclaw because they thought that I would be powerful and possibly the next leader…
As his eyes started to droop he heard a voice in his head almost exactly like BloodBringers.
“You are my useless son. I expected more of you.” It spat, “I’ll rip your tail the next time I have the chance unless you stop being a little weakling...until then, you're nothing but a coward and wimp.”
Chapter 5[]
The next morning Scar awoke to DeathClaw lightly brushing his shoulder. His father tilted his head at Scar, beckoning him to follow.
What's this about? Scar wondered drawing in a large yawn, he was surprisingly full despite not eating in a while. He stepped down the stairs and followed his father outside.
The musky air of the Rottian Valor drew into Scars nostrils, though to him, it was normal to smell something that unpleasant.
It took him a moment to realize that it was nightfall and the sun was barely cracking out of the surface. Why would his father wake him up so early?
“Hi mom.” Scar said almost missing the black Odogaron entirely due to the darkness.
BloodBringer was sitting up in front of him, wearing her usual scowl. Though Scar thought he could see a bit of doubt in her eyes.
“Did I do something wrong?” Scar asked, thinking that was the right thing to say before adding.
BloodBringer looked as if she was about to shout out something furious but DeathClaw cut her off.
“No, you didn’t do anything that would anger us.” Deathclaw said, casting a quick glance at his mate.
A wave of relief crashed over Scar. He was afraid they were going to exile him or something. They wouldn’t do that would they? Father wouldn’t allow it. But BloodBringer is also his general…
Could it happen? Could BloodBringer actually kick him out of the realm? Surely she would need King Shimmerwave and the other generals approval. But the generals probably already hated him as much as they hated BloodBringer so he didn’t want to take any chances.
“There is something we want to talk about.” His father said, stopping Scars train of thoughts, “BloodBringer?”
“You’ve lost every battle you’ve entered.” His mother hissed.
Scar instantly was filled with the guilt his mother threw at him.
“And I have trained you all I knew and the only thing you were actually good at is running and jumping away from your opponent like they were made of fire.”
“But,” DeathClaw added before his mate made another harsh comment, “I have talked with your mother and managed to convince her that there is one thing that could help.”
“I only agreed to this because for once you were smarter than me.” BloodBringer muttered, lowering her head.
“Don’t tell me I have to eat more Legiana meat.” Scar groaned only half joking. Legiana’s were truly disgusting.
“Ha! No. We don’t have any left. Your mother ate it all” Deathclaw jokes.
Scar felt his amusement bubble and he let out a bark of laughter. Even BloodBringer made a tiny snort.
“Now let's get back on topic.” DeathClaw ordered a few seconds “We decided to do something different instead and it will take a day or two.”
Wait, Scar clenched the ground, he had a strong feeling he knew what his parents wanted to do, surely they didn’t-they couldn’t mean…
“Tonight there's a Blood Moon.” His mother said, “You're going to Bladetip.”
“Really!?” Scar exclaimed leaping up,
His heart was practically bursting out of his chest with excitement. Everyday while he layed in bed he dreamed of what it would be like to finally have a special ability. He practically memorized at least forty different abilities
Silvermaster is coming with me to! His brain reminded him, that cheered him up quite a lot. He couldn’t wait to see his oldest friends face!
“If you can’t hold your energy for the hike up the mountain I’ll consider keeping you here.” BloodBringer said sternly.
“Aww let him have a chance to be happy. It won’t do any harm.” Deathclaw assured her.
Everything started to make sense. This was why his parents woke him up so early! From what he heard it took an entire day just to climb up the super steep mountain. Even monster with powerful wings had to walk due to the powerful winds that swirled around the mountains.
“Can we go now?” Scar asked excitedly, his legs were shaking and he couldn’t seem to stop.
“Hold on.” Deathclaw said, “First we need to have a visit to Slimejaw to see if you are prepared for this journey. Then we have to go to the trade center for supplies”
Slimejaw? Scar groaned silently, Slimejaw was the Rottian Valor’s mage, meaning he knew all about healing and magic. Which was ironic considering he was a Deviljho which were known to be one of the most powerful monsters in all the realms. They could take on a Rathalos one on one if they wanted to.
Slimejaw though was the worse mage. Scar sometimes hoped he die of his old age sometimes soon. Slimejaws voice was oily and cracky and made everyone who heard him want to claw their ears off. Like his name stated his salvia was green like slime and got on anything.
“Now no complaining.” Deathclaw said probably noticing the face Scar was making.
“Ok.” Scar mumbled.
Deathclaw nodded, then started walking towards the direction of Slimejaws hut, “Then come, its only an hour before the sun will come up and we must get to the rest of the group hiking Bladetip before they leave without you.”
“Won’t mom be coming?” Scar asked following him before casting a glance at his mother who started climbing a large ledge.
“She has a meeting with the generals today.” His father replied, flicking his bony tail dismissively, “She’ll make it if she can.”
I don’t think she will if she had the chance. Scar said, his heart sinking. He decided to get that dark thought out of his mind by thinking about what ability he should get. Their were hundreds of possible abilities a monster could get. Most only got one while others, if they were important, could go a second time to get another one. Scar was pretty sure his mother wasn’t proud enough to allow him to go twice. So he had to choose wisely,
Mother and Father both have the bleed ability which allows me to be able to make deep wounds. BloodBringer has dragonblight so if I got that I could weaken other monsters attacks and defenses with special smoke. Though Scar knew that their were many more he could get, Battler, Lifesaver, Advantage…
As he thought hard on his decisions of abilities he could overhear the sound of monsters shuffling into more comfortable sleeping positions, others were making snores that made small echoes around the land while some, and which Scar assumed were younger and smaller monsters, were making small and somewhat cute breathes.
At one point he spotted the tail of a Diablos on one of the homes, her size took up the entire house as she slept and Scar could see her wings sticking out of the sides.
“A visitor from the Wilderian Vain? What’s she doing here?” Scar asked. DeathClaw followed his gaze and narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Her name is Sleekhorn.” he said, “She was out on a patrol near the edge of the realms near the Rottian Valor was claimed she was attacked by an unidentified monster.” Deathclaw glanced at the Diablos for a few seconds but then turned away, “Were not sure wether to believe her or not.”
“What were her injuries.” Scar asked beginning to get more and more curious, could this mystery monster possibly attack him on his journey to Bladetip, which was out of the realms territory.
“It was weird.” Deathclaw sighed, “A few of her scales were torn off and she had four claw marks, two on each side, and one of her horns was broken. And weird spikes were sticking out on her right leg. It was nothing like I’ve ever seen.”
Broken horn, ripped off scales, claw marks, unusual spikes...definitely not the technique of any monster Scar had known before. The thought of monster fighting reminded Scar of Venom. What happened to him? Was he already exiled out of the realms? Could he possibly be the on that attacked the Diablos?
He heard stories that monsters who were exiled went to a forest, but it was nothing like Acetan. It was dark, trees blocking the light, and the feeling that someone is always watching you. And any monster that went their turned savage and almost brainless, only wanting to kill and shred the life out of others.
It could be possible. The monster who attacked could of sunk their claws into Sleekhorn twice to look like a monster latched on with four legs.
“Will she be treated?” Scar asked.
“Of course!” DeathClaw answered, “Slimejaw has treated her already. I’m not sure what he said but I do know that it has to do with sleeping.”
Embarrassment flooded over Scar, “Well yeah I guess thats what mages do.”
Their was a moment of silence between the two, an awkward silence.
“How did you and mother get together?” Scar blurted. That was the first question that came to mind, to be honest, it came to him at least three times a day. It probably was time to get an answer.
DeathClaw turned back, probably a bit startled by the question, “It was a long time ago.” he began, “Back when all the generals like Plunderer and Thunderwing all just reached adulthood.”
In a flash the picture of grumpy Plunderer and strict Thunderwing almost Scars age. It was quite hard to imagine
“I was with my mother, Ridgetail, who was taking me to Cordonia for some hunting classes-”
“Hunting classes?” Scar echoed, his mid was blank yet was full of curiosity like usual, “I didn’t know the existed. I thought parents taught their offspring to hunt.”
“They don’t exist., at least they don’t anymore. But their were too many injuries and fights.” Deathclaw told him, “So later the next day, I was out hunting for any possible corpses or prey. No luck as usual. And I suddenly heard someone yelling. Worried that someone may have gotten hurt, I raced in the direction of the voice. Once I got through the coral I came across the most beautiful Odogaron I have ever seen.”
Scar’s mind put on the brakes for a moment. Beautiful? He was sure that if BloodBringer heard anyone call her beautiful, she’d in words, “Rip out their claws and stab their eyes with it.”.
“So that Odogaron was mother?” he asked
“You bet it was.” His father chuckled, “She was yelling at RazorClaw, the Cordonia general back then. I was astonished to see someone besides a general argue with RazorClaw. And I’ll tell you RazorClaw was a pretty tough general. He wasn’t evil but he has done some bad things, and if others don’t agree with him things can get pretty violent”
“BloodBringer argued with a general?”
Scar was astonished, Nobody argues with the general. Except other generals of course.
“Yep.” His father said, “Her name was Blood at the time and I was Death, but she still had her fierce personality at the time.”
“What were they arguing about?”
“The borders.” His father answered, “RazorClaw wanted to increase the size of Cordonia into the Forbidden Forest. Of course BloodBringer disagreed.”
the two paused at the corpse of an aptonoth that probably died from descending off the edge as their was a steep crack in the Rottian Valors ceiling leaving a sliver of light radiating from the outside. “Eat, you’ll need your strength.”
Scar obeyed and dipped his head to take a bite of the juicy flesh as his father continued.
“At one point Blood snapped something at RazorClaw that really ticked him off. He was a Bazelguese so at one point he dropped one of his explosive scales, it exploded and she fell over.”
Scar jerked up and the flesh made a tearing sound, he then cut it with his talons and gave one more jerk and the meat in his mouth came free, “What happened then?”
“As soon as RazorClaw left I raced over to her. She was obviously alive but she was bleeding heavily from the head and one of her eyes was rigorously damaged. “
One of the pieces Scar swallowed came to a stop midway down his throat and he choked before swallowing. “So she’s blind?”
“Half-Blind. I’m not surprised you never noticed. She is good at pretending she can see with both eyes. In fact I think only you and I know that.” he hesitated for a moment before adding, “And lets keep it that way.”
Scar nodded slowly, he racked his brain to try and remember times where their were possible signs of his mother being half blind. To his surprise he couldn’t remember any. Maybe the time he got lost in the trading center because he snuck away despite being right next to her?
“Shall I continue?” His father asked.
“Oh-yes!” Scar mumbled through a mouthful of aptonoth.
“I didn’t know what to do. I was tempted leave her to bleed to death or let someone else find her. She was too heavy for me to carry and she wouldn’t even know that I didn’t help her. But I didn’t, instead I used Nulberries to stop the bleeding and rubbed off the remains of the explosive scale that could possibly injure her more. When she woke and I told her what happened she seemed to want to spend as less time as she could with me much to my despair. She got up, gruffly said she didn’t need my help and she could of done it myself and left. Classic BloodBringer.”
It was easy to imagine Scar’s mother like that. After all, the kindest thing she had ever done was save him from an arena battle.
“Then a few months in the Rottian Valor, my mother appointed me as her pre-leader after my father died. A few days ago their were reports of a Rajang in the area.”
Rajangs were annoying and powerful Fanged Beasts from outside the realms. They sometimes broke through the borders. Chasing off Rajangs was brutal and almost suicide work. A single hit from their electric blast could kill a full grown Rathalos. They were very unpredictable and strong as well, legends say that they hunted Kirin hundreds of years ago and bring them to near extinction.
“Just to be safe. My mother sent me out on a patrol with two Legiana to give food and water to any monsters who couldn’t get any. So far we were ok, everyone got their food and their were no footprints or clawed trees, any sign of a Rajang. I began to wonder if their really was a sighting, maybe some monsters just made it up to scare everyone or someone mistakened a monster in the greenish fog for one. We were half way to the next house when without warning. A massive creature leaped out from a nearby rock, grabbed me by the tail, and hurled me into a nearby rock-”
“Hold on.” Scar interrupted, taking one more bite of Aptonoth meat.
“Those two Legiana. Were they Gracefulness and Skyreacher?”
“Your smart. Yes they were.”
Gracefulness was the complete oppisite of all the generals. She never yelled and did not have any temptation to kill anyone. She always suggested ideas and supported it with info. She was a fair and kind general. Skywatcher was both Gracefulness’s mate and pre-leader. He helped other realms and offered protection to others.
They also had a daughter named Frostblade. Unlike all the others mages who weren’t related to the general and pre-leader.
“I’ll leave the story here for now.” DeathClaw said, “The sun is almost up and we need to head to Slimejaw quickly if we want to make it.”
Scar nodded and the two set off.
Chapter 6[]
Slimejaw seemed to be expecting them as they approached his hut.
“Oy knew I’d ye’d be comin soon.” he said in his irritating voice.
“Scar is going to Bladetip tonight.” Deathclaw said, “I was going to give him a check up to see if he’s nice ad healthy before the journey.”
“Hmm, yesh, yesh.” Slimejaw said, not seeming to be surprised by the news “We’ll step into me houshe, I’ll give him ay full cheyck.” He flicked his massive tail at them as a sign to follow him.
Slimejaws hut, like all mages, was made of leaves, sticks, mud and bone, though it was obviously massive due to his size, their were multiple shelves in the corders holding baskets of multiple herbs along with a lamp hanging from the top about the size of Scars claw.
“Mowth open son.” Slimejaw said.
Don’t you dare drool into it again. Scar thought bitterly stretching his jaw open.
Slimejaw leaned forward so close the scent of the mage caught up in Scars nostrils and he fought back a gag.
“Missin fang eh?” Slimejaw creaked.
“Lost it a moon ago.” Deathclaw responded, “Fighting incident.”
Scar wouldn’t of called it a fighting incident, he was watching over the young Acidic Glavenus, Swipe. The same one who was following SharpFang before. Scar was enjoying a nice chunk of Raphinos meat and Swipe asked for some. Scar of course being the generous one said yes and started to cut up the meat, but Swipe insisted to cut it up with his tail instead. Before Scar could even speak, Swipe lashed out his tail and aimed for the meat. Scar had his mouth open at the wrong time and the blade jammed between two of his front fangs. Swipe panicked and jerked his tail back repeatedly until his precious blade like tail popped out, along with one of Scars adult teeth.
This is why you need to toughen up! BloodBringer barked after he told her why his mouth was bleeding, Your kindness always brings trouble.
It wasn’t fair! It wasn’t his fault that Swipe jabbed his tail into his mouth! He was just unlucky! Yet Scar never pointed it out.
“Scar…you can close your mouth now. Slimejaws done.” DeathClaw said.
“Oh, sorry.” Scar replied, embarrassed. He snapped his jaws shut and quietly spit on the floor incase the Deviljho drooled on him and he didn’t notice.
“Alrigh youngin, besides dat lost fang yo mouth is doin quite fine. Have you been eatin them Legiana meat?”
“Not much.” Scar said, he had to be honest, “Its nasty.”
“Jus because its nasty doesn mean ya shouldn eat it.” Slimejaw said sternly, “Good for dem muscles.”
“Is their something else I can eat besides Legiana?” Scar asked hopefully.
“Hmm.” Slimejaw said thoughtfully, he turned around hitting Scar in the head with his fat tail and the force of an entire army, “I’y do have sum Might seeds in my storage, perhapsh you could have some o those.”
Seeds, I think I can handle those, Scar thought, “Sure.”
“Den help yer shelf.” The mage said stepping back. Scar took a step forward but then realized he had no idea what Might seeds look liked.
Almost as if he was reading his mind, Slimejaw added, “They’re the red ones in de bottom basket.”
Immediately locating the seeds Scar looked back up at Slimejaw, “How many?”
“Aye’d shay bout twenty-five.” Slimejaw replied, “They may be shmall but give you quite a shrenth boosht.”
Twenty five. It was quite hard to pick out that many. He accidentally kept picking up more then twenty five because of how tiny they were. Scar started to wonder how Slimejaw managed to sort out herbs with his tiny arms. After a few minutes of picking out the correct amount of seeds Scar turned back to Slimejaw
“Can he have something to hold them in?” DeathClaw asked, “He shouldn’t be carrying them up the mountain. He needs his talons for climbing.
Climbing? Scar knew that Bladetip was steep, but he didn’t know it meant he had to sink his claws into the mountains walls and pull himself up. What would happen if he fell?
His worries were cut off when Slimejaw turned around again and bopped him in the face again with his tail.
“Yesh, o courshe o courshe” He nudged a box in the corner open and grabbed a bag in his mouth. The bag was small but not tiny, it was woven out of Paolumu fur and was dyed black, connected to the bag was a silver earth crystal chain. He dropped it in Scars hands, it was a bit wet with drool but Scar couldn’t stop staring at it.
“Wow-thank you.” Scar stammered.
His parents (or BloodBringer at least) never let let him keep anything. Except books and materials for training of course. But they never allowed him to buy anything but food. But now, he had something he could actually bring with him anywhere he wanted.
“This is the nicest thing you’ve ever done to me.” he said, saying his thoughts aloud. He instantly snapped his mouth shut a second too late and Slimejaw turned towards him with one scaly eyebrow raised.
“Eh? Wha you mean thish is the’ nicest thin I have done to yeh? I helped ye plenty o times befo! Are you sayin that my work is bad?”
“No!” Scar yelped, “Thats not what I mea-” But Slimejaw cut him off.
“We’ll I may be a bit ol but I still work hard thro and thro-”
Scar turned to his father for help but he ljust gave scar a "really?"d as Scar was.
“Thats not what I mean!” Scar said, “I said that wrong! I mean that this is the nicest thing you gave me.”
That was true. He really enjoyed the bag that he now slung around his neck. But he honestly did not like Slimejaws work. Multiple times he came back drenched in green salvia. And everytime that happened Slimejaw said. “O don be whining about my own spih. Its jus a little rushty from me age. ”
Thankfully Slimejaw stopped talking and for once heard what Scar said.
“By all the realmsh you youngins are alwaysh saying the wrong thingsh to ush eldersh. Now let me check you tail.”
Scar let out a small sigh of relief which was echoed by his father.
Slimejaw took a swift glance at his tail before saying “Yer 24 moonsh! Moy, Moy, it only sheemsh just yeshterday when your mother came out of the hatchery with you.”
Scar nodded, he barely remembered his first time out of his egg, the only memory he had of it was a funny smell and having to lean against one of his parents so he could walk.
“Hmm,” Slimejaw muttered “Had any battlesh today son?”
“Yes.” Scar said, not wanting to remember the fight.
“Any injuriesh? Some of yer tail ridges seem a bit dented.”
“I think ThunderWing gripped it too hard.” Scar remarked. He remembered feeling a sharp stab of pain when the Azure Rathalos grabbed his tail with his talons.
“Twisting those ridges back into place may sheverly damage the mushles around it. So itsh better if I left it alone fo awhile. Jush try to not bang it agiansht other rocksh.”
Scar nodded, that made sense, Odogaron tails were very fragile, moving one of the bony ridges on it could cause sever damage.
“Now leh me shee thoshe talons.” Slimejaw said.
Scar nodded and raised his right claw which were glowing dimly in the light.
“No hitsh fron Dragonblight eh?” Slimejaw grinned, “Thatsh a good shign. Yah mother hash shtopped hasn’t she?”
“My mom-wait-no,no,no she’s harsh but she never-” Scar started
Slimejaw opened his mouth and let out a cackle of amusement but made Scars scales prickle.
“I’m jush’t jokin with ya! Ye young Odo’s alway are losing their clawsh to be replaced with new, sharper onesh once in a while. Didn’t chya learn about talon shedding?”
“I don’t think so.” Scar remarked, “If I did I don’t remember it.”
