It’s WoF x Hunger Games, what did you expect?

200 years in the future, and Pyrrhia is a very different society. The tribes have each formed their own separate cultures, and association is almost entirely forbidden. Pantala? Forgotten. All ties with the other parts of the world have been cut off. Hybrids, while originally frowned upon, are now banned and hated. Every year, the dragons of Pyrrhia join together for an event. King Galaxy of the NightWings hosts all 7 royal families to join him in his palace. For what?

Every year, 7 hybrids are captured. And every year, they are teamed up with a pure-blooded dragon, one drafted randomly from each tribe. The royal families join King Galaxy in his large arena as the 14 dragons fight. To the death. And the last team standing wins not only their freedom, but bragging rights for their kingdom. The festivities have just started, and the arena is almost in use. It looks as though the brutal festival will start and end as usual. However, something is special about this year. Galaxy has several tricks up his sleeve, and although unknown, they are definitely brutal. However, the contestants this year are special too. And they’ll do whatever it takes to make it out alive.

Part One[]

Chapter One: Citrine[]

”Welcome.”

Princess Citrine fiddled with her cutlery. The NightWing sat at the end of the table, his face a mask, devoid of emotion. His scales were ebony, tinted silver. Little specks of color dotted his wings and underbelly. At 8 years old, this was Citrine’s first time seeing a NightWing.

Citrine's mother Queen Jacinth stiffened next to her. Things between the SkyWings and the NightWings were not good. A few years prior, Jacinth had refused to let her son go to the games when he was drafted. As this was the first time a royal had ever been drafted, it was good for 'publicity', and so King Galaxy had refused to let him go. A war had almost broken out. Therefore, Citrine knew King Galaxy was a monster. A twisted, cruel, evil monster.

But she wasn't prepared for him to look so normal.

The NightWing stood up so that she could see him clearer. He had an average build... in fact, he was quite short, shorter than her mother. However. something about him was still menacing. Citrine suddenly wanted to run, or hide, or just go back to the Sky kingdom. Here they were, so far from home, about to watch the event of the year.

"I trust you've noticed my little wall over there," Galaxy continued, gesturing to the wall in front of him. It was huge, lined with about 30 or so grey shiny panels. Queen Fennec of the SandWings chuckled softly. Citrine was immediately confused.

"Mom, what's th--" she started as the panels came to life, each showing a different scene. One of them showed the birds-eye view of a small forest, while another showed what appeared to be a riverbank. The panels flicked through different scenes, each one bright and detailed, each one beautiful. It was equally breathtaking as it was horrifying.

A short NightWing with a bent back wandered through a shot of the forest aimlessly, picking up leaves and twigs as he went. Galaxy sighed irritably.

"Shadowscales, get out of the shot!" he yelled into a device he kept by him. The dragon ducked away, invisible once again.

"Sorry, that's just the janitor," he said hurriedly, looking almost embarrassed. "Destruction, show our guests the devices." He paused. "The portable screens."

Another NightWing, tall and thin, nodded. "Yes sir." Thin gray squares were handed to each guest, smooth and seemingly flawless. Citrine gasped as hers lit up.

"Put these in your ears, and you'll be able to hear... for the full experience." Galaxy grinned as items that strongly resembled little pegs were passed to the attendees. "I know this is a little different than last year, but I promise it will make the event a lot more engaging."

Citrine's screen suddenly displayed a forest. She tapped on a button beneath the screen- it now showed the birds-eye view of the beach. Citrine inserted the little pegs into her ears and was immediately greeted by the sound of the wind. Murmurs of amazement swept through the room. Citrine was shocked, but it was a pleasant shock at the same time.

"If you're all ready," Galaxy said. "Let the games begin."

Citrine munched on a cow leg as she watched.

Chapter Two: Jasper[]

Jasper sucked in a breath, telling themself everything was going to be alright. It wasn't.

They glanced around the room. A RainWing sat to their right, her scales glowing saturated pinks and blues. The iron clamped onto her wings stood out even more on top of the bright scales. She glanced at Jasper as to say, What are you looking at?

They looked to their left, where Cosmo was sitting, staring at the ceiling of the holding room. She was as indecipherable as always, but Jasper estimated she was just as agitated as he was.

There were six dragons in the holding room, crowded together on benches. A fluorescent light flickered above the peeling gray walls. The floors were darker, made up of some solid material Jasper had never seen before. They had been left in there for quite some time.

"Hi," a pure-blooded MudWing started, breaking the awkward silence with a more awkward speech. "Uh..." she paused. "If I happen to kill you out there, I'm really sorry."

"That's much appreciated," Cosmo spoke in her classic deadpan tone. Jasper couldn't tell if she was telling the truth or not.

The room turned back to awkward silence. Jasper looked down at the ground, trying to tell what material the floor was made of.

Suddenly, the door opened. A dragon who appeared to be a NightWing/SkyWing hybrid was the one who opened it. The light reflected off two iron bands wrapped around her wrists; a thin chain was visible between them. As she stepped through, more iron shackles were visible on her wings. Jasper looked down, realizing that he had shackles in the same place. The moment he was drafted for the game, he was nothing more than property; a slave, even.

"Come with me, please?" the hybrid asked. Jasper knew it was hardly a question and more of a demand she was trying to sugarcoat.

The six dragons followed her to their likely deaths.

Chapter Three: Bloodshadow[]

Everything seemed to slow. The announcer counted down from five; while there was only one voice, Blood knew the rest of the continent was chanting with him. A whistle. The shot of adrenaline. Someone yelling "run!" from far away. Maybe it was just his imagination, but he ran. Then came a flash of brown scales, the color red, then darkness.

Somewhere, a canon went off.

Chapter Four: Lavender[]

Lavender gazed out from the bushes at the Cornucopia.

"I counted four canons going off," Sapphire stated quietly, "but I've spotted five bodies."

Lavender felt her stomach flip. Oh no...

"Should we...?" Lavender asked, gesturing towards the field. Sapphire shook her head.

"I got herbs, a canteen of water, and a small knife," Sapphire said quickly, shuffling through the contents of the bag she grabbed.

Lavender looked through hers. "I also have a knife," she whispered. "Plus, a bow." She shrugged. "No arrows, though."

Lavender and Sapphire both paused simultaneously. A large noise echoed through the arena. Another death? The canon had gone off once again, signifying something neither of them wanted to speak about. Next time it could be one of us, Lavender thought grimly.

"We need to go," Lavender commented. "Find somewhere safe. We can take turns sleeping, count the canons, and try to make it out."

Sapphire laughed bitterly. "If you think that will help."

They set out into the forested area.

---

Lavender pondered her chances of survival. Seemingly, both NightWings were dead, as well as one pure-blood SeaWing, a RainWing hybrid of sorts, and a MudWing/NightWing hybrid. The poor dragons, she thought to herself. At least it was painless. Right?

"Ours will be much longer," Sapphire remarked. Lavender shot a glare at her, unaware she was talking aloud.

Sapphire opened her mouth to say something more, but Lavender suddenly jabbed her in the leg. Be quiet, she mouthed.

Footsteps. Coming from who knows where?

Lavender surveyed the area swiftly. They were walking along a sandy riverbank. What was I thinking? she thought to herself. We're way too exposed out here!

She grabbed Sapphire by the talon and pulled her behind a rocky ledge. A deer skittered past, stopping to drink from the river. Lavender exhaled, letting go of Sapphire's talon.

The deer skittered away suddenly. A large MudWing wandered through, a small hybrid working either for the SeaWings or the Sandwings following her.

"I swear they went this way," the hybrid muttered.

Lavender let out a small smile as they walked past. Sapphire, however, looked petrified. Well, I have to give her credit for not screaming, Lavender thought to herself.

Chapter Five: Dawn[]

"Mutt," Terra had muttered many times in the few minutes they were travelling together. "Mutt, come over here!"

"You're going to have to do better than that," Dawn said matter-of-factly. She looked around.

Terra glared at her. "Be quiet!" she hissed. "They could be anywhere." Dawn rolled her eyes.

"I'm sure they already have." Dawn flinched as she tried to spread her wings. The metal prevented her from doing the one thing she knew she could do: fly. Dawn glanced down at the talon-prints Terra seemed to be so excited about.

"I also sure the Ice duo didn't leave that behind," Dawn stated. "That was clearly left by one dragon. Also, the talon print is webbed."

Terra sighed. "I'm fully aware of that."

They stared at each other for a few moments. Terra sighed again, although a bit more awkwardly.

Dawn nodded, going through the possibilities of who the mysterious traveller could be.

Terra continued, "Look, your attitude is making me think I should have left you by the cornucopia."

Dawn forced herself to stay calm. "Would you stop talking about that? Both of our partners happened to die, so we decided to team up. There was no "valorous pure-blood rescues poor half-breed from certain doom". It was a decision made by both of us."

"Dawn?" someone said from nearby.

Terra stared in the direction the sound had come from. "Almost impeccable timing. Seriously. A few moments earlier and you would have nailed it."

Sunfish stepped forward.
