It should be noted that here, everything proceeds as normal. Clan wars come and go. Leaders gain lives and lose them. Seasons come and go. Kits are born and elders are lost.
Except, it doesn’t.
In this AU, instead of ThunderClan refusing to give SkyClan back the territory they gave them (see Code of the Clans, Code 13), they instead gave SkyClan back that old territory. As well as that, the Twolegs stopped expanding into SkyClan territory before it became too big of a problem. SkyClan just moved camps, and everything was peaceful.
SkyClan was eventually exiled from the forest by BloodClan in the time of Firestar, and the other four Clans drove out BloodClan. SkyClan had gone to the gorge as normal, but scattered all the same. Firestar reassembled SkyClan and helped them return to their home.
Now, many, many moons later…
The story of Firestar has faded into an ancient legend. The Twolegs never came to the forest, so the Clan cats never moved to the lake. Some curious, rebellious cats developed their own groups in those territories, completely cut off from the Clans and Highstones, and by proxy, StarClan.
The true Clans, meanwhile, have been getting an increase in kittypet and rogue activity. Forest fires, floods, wars and other disasters have left them semi-weakened, but the Clans still believe they can stop the rogues before they go too far. Little do they know that this is the beginning of another BloodClan war…
Prologue (Spirit)[]
Three cats padded through the forest, waiting for the sun to set. The first, a black tom with white paws, looked around, before beckoning for a brown cat beside him to join the third, a snow-white cat. As the three cats padded forward, the black tom spoke.
“Now, Nightmare, can you smell anything?” the black tom asked.
The brown tom sniffed the air. “Nothing unusual, just the ThunderClan border. And–” He sniffed again. “Wait. I smell Spirit!”
“Nightmare! Winter! Stay close!” The black tom said to the other two cats.
“Right, Claw!” The white she-cat - likely Winter - answered.
At this point, Spirit began to be afraid. She knew that the three cats would catch and kill them; after all, they had become no more ruthless than BloodClan, he had heard. So fearing for his new kits’ lives, he ran to the hollow in which they slept.
The two kits - a silver tabby she-cat and a black tom - lay fast asleep. The black tom was younger than the tabby, as he had been adopted by Shade after the death of her brother.
Shade, the leader of BloodClan, who was now hunting down the kits.
A short time later, the kits were awake and moving.
"Come on, you two!" Spirit hissed. "We need to leave, NOW!"
"HALT, TRAITOR!"
The shout had come from the top of the slope. The three warriors stood there, staring down at the white tom.
"Spirit! You are a traitor to BloodClan for leaving, and now you are wanted for stealing the kits of the leader Shade! You will pay for this offense!" Nightmare shouted.
"I WILL NOT YIELD!" Spirit yowled, and the two cats leaped at each other.
Spirit's first strike was at Nightmare's ear. The black tom dodged, and slashed Spirit along his side. The white-and-gray tom hissed in pain when the dog-tooth claws touched his skin.
That was enough for Nightmare. As soon as he heard Spirit hiss, he thrust his claws into the light tom's throat.
Spirit gargled, blood streaming out of his neck. His once-white pelt now glistened with red in the dying sunlight. As he let out his last breath, Nightmare yowled in triumph and moved to take the kits.
At that moment, a patrol of warrior cats from two Clans - ThunderClan and RiverClan, by their scents - came thundering over the slope. Three from Thunderclan, four from RiverClan. They took one look at the rogues and attacked.
